In G. Rossini's quick-witted comic style and warmly expressive melodies, this spunky tale creates an irresistible ‘zest for life' feeling as young love blossoms against all odds. It's been a favorite with generations of opera lovers. The DFO version was set in a fictitious Duluth estate, circa 1920, owned by the obsequious and greedy Dr. Bartolo. This was Duluth's high-steppin' heyday where even the great manor house comes alive to the sound of those great Rossini finales!
The Story
Local Duluth rich kid loves the beautiful Rosina, who is kept a virtual prisoner in the estate of her crotchety, lecherous guardian Dr. Bartolo. He hires jack-of-all-trades, barber and busybody Figaro to help him liberate her from the doctor's clutches, which he does with an ingenious array of hilarious tricks and disguises. Local Duluth historians were delighted by this unique production.
